01Engineering and method
Every new part starts with a method: gating, risering and feeding designed in-house, with casting simulation through a specialist partner for critical parts. Worn parts and samples are reverse-engineered when no drawing exists.
- Methoding and casting design
- CAD and profile design
- Reverse engineering from samples
- Simulation with a specialist partner
02Pattern shop
Patterns are made in-house in wood, polystyrene and aluminium, cut on a CNC router. More than 10,000 patterns are already on file, so repeat orders go straight to moulding.
- 10,000+ patterns on file
- Wood, polystyrene and aluminium
- CNC router pattern making
03Melting
Induction melting in crucibles from 500 kg to 6 tonnes. A dual-track power supply brings up to 10 tonnes of liquid metal to a single pour, so heavy pieces are cast in one go.
- Crucibles of 500, 1,500, 3,000 and 6,000 kg
- Up to 10 tonnes of liquid metal per pour
- Spectrometer analysis on every heat
04Moulding
Alphaset no-bake moulding gives strong, dimensionally stable moulds for pieces from 3 kg to 7 tonnes. Sand is mechanically reclaimed and reused.
- Alphaset mixers of 8 and 20 tonnes an hour
- Mould pre-heater and shell core shooter
- Sand reclamation of 6 and 12 tonnes an hour
05Heat treatment
Gas-fired box furnaces with water quench and bogie-hearth furnaces with air and oil quench. Manganese steel goes from furnace to water in about 45 seconds.
- Two 10-tonne box furnaces, water quench
- Two 12-tonne bogie-hearth furnaces, air and oil quench
- Solution treatment, hardening and tempering
06Fettling and machining
Castings are fettled, proof-machined and finished to drawing on CNC and conventional vertical lathes, machining centres and a 6,500 mm special-purpose machine.
- Two CNC vertical lathes and a 1,350 mm VTL
- Machining centres to 1,600 × 800 mm
- Plano miller, lathes and radial drills
