Apron pans and sprockets

Apron pans take the full drop of run-of-mine rock and carry it to the crusher. Sprockets drive the chain that carries them, so both must keep their geometry under heavy, repeated impact.

Works in
Apron feeders under dump hoppers and ahead of primary crushers.
Industries
Mining, Cement
Materials
Manganese steel, Carbon or low-alloy steel
Size
Single pieces from 3 kg to 7 tonnes, to drawing
Supplied
As cast, or machined to drawing

How it fails and what we do about it

  1. 01Pan wear and cracking under falling rockManganese steel that work-hardens under impact.
  2. 02Spillage between pansOverlaps and stiffeners cast to drawing.
  3. 03Sprocket tooth wearQuenched and tempered alloy steel; segmented sprockets where the design allows.

Choosing the grade

Typical values from the governing standards. A metallurgist confirms the grade for your duty with every quotation.

Usual choice

Austenitic manganese steel

Pans under heavy impact.

ASTM A128 · IS 276 · EN 10349

Alternative

Carbon and low-alloy steels

Sprockets and lighter-duty pans, quenched and tempered.

ASTM A27 · ASTM A148 · IS 1030 · IS 2644 · EN 10293

What we control

  • Made to drawingFrom the OEM drawing, a part number or a worn sample reverse-engineered in-house.
  • Heat treated for the dutyWater quench for manganese steel; air or oil quench and temper for alloy steel.
  • Machined to fitBores, pin holes and flanges machined so the part installs first time.
  • Tested and recordedHardness, chemistry and NDT reported with the casting.

For a quotation, send any of these

  • Equipment make and model, or the OEM part number
  • Drawing, or the worn part or photographs with key dimensions
  • The grade used today and the life it gives
  • Quantity per set and sets per year
