Mill liners

Liners protect the shell and lift the ball charge. In the first chamber they must take the impact of large balls; in the fine chamber they classify the charge and resist abrasion.

Works in
Shell liners, lifters and end liners of ball and tube mills grinding cement, ore and coal.
Industries
Cement, Mining, Thermal power and steel
Materials
Cr-Mo steel, High-chromium iron, Ni-Hard
Size
Single pieces from 3 kg to 7 tonnes, to drawing
Supplied
As cast, or machined to drawing
Inspection
Chemistry and hardness on every heat; UT, MPI or DPT and a dimensional report as specified
From a worn part
Yes. Send the part or photographs with key dimensions and we will reverse-engineer it

How it fails and what we do about it

  1. 01Lifter wear that flattens the profileProfile matched to mill speed and media size.
  2. 02Cracking under ball impactTougher Cr-Mo steel where impact is high.

Choosing the grade

Typical values from the governing standards. A metallurgist confirms the grade for your duty with every quotation.

Usual choice

Cr-Mo and martensitic steels

First chambers and other high-impact positions.

IS 4896 · Customer specification

Alternative

High-chromium white iron

Fine-grinding chambers with smaller media.

ASTM A532 Class II and III · IS 4771 · ISO 21988 / EN 12513

What we control

  • Hardened through the sectionWhite iron alloyed and heat treated for the thickness of each segment, not just its surface.
  • Structure checkedMicrostructure examined with an image analyser, so carbide and matrix are verified, not assumed.
  • Fit as a setSegments checked against each other and against gauges so they assemble without forcing.
  • Machined to drawingBores, journals and fixing faces finished on vertical lathes and machining centres.
