Tip castings and sectors

At the outlet, tip castings protect the end of the shell and hold the nose-ring refractory against clinker at well over 1,000 °C and hot secondary air. When they burn back, the shell overheats and the kiln has to stop.

How it fails and what we do about it

  1. 01Burn-back and loss of the tip profileA higher-nickel grade for the hottest positions.
  2. 02Cracking from thermal cyclingSections and ribs designed to let the casting expand.
  3. 03Loss of refractory holdAnchoring features cast to drawing.

Choosing the grade

Typical values from the governing standards. A metallurgist confirms the grade for your duty with every quotation.

Our grade

Heat-resistant steels

HK type at the outlet tip; HH type where temperatures are lower, such as the inlet.

IS 4522 · IS 519 · ASTM A297 · ASTM A447 · EN 10295

What we control

  • Chemistry firstChromium and nickel verified on the spectrometer for every heat and recorded against the casting.
  • Designed to stay straightRibs and sections arranged so the part can expand without warping.
  • Fit-up checkedSegments, hangers and interlocks checked so sets assemble on site without rework.
  • Traceable to the heatEvery casting carries its heat number, with the chemistry report to match.
