Hammers and beaters

Hammers swing on the rotor and break material against the breaker plates and grates. Their life sets how often the crusher stops. A hammer that breaks can damage the rotor it hangs on.

Works in
Hammer crushers, hammer mills and impactors for limestone, coal, clinker and other medium-hard material.
Industries
Cement, Mining, Aggregate, Thermal power and steel
Materials
Manganese steel, Cr-Mo steel
Size
Single pieces from 3 kg to 7 tonnes, to drawing
Supplied
As cast, or machined to drawing
Inspection
Chemistry and hardness on every heat; UT, MPI or DPT and a dimensional report as specified
From a worn part
Yes. Send the part or photographs with key dimensions and we will reverse-engineer it
Simplified 3D model · drag to turn

How it fails and what we do about it

  1. 01Wear at the striking headGrade chosen for feed size and abrasiveness, with a heavier head where the drawing allows.
  2. 02Cracking at the pin boreSound metal around the bore from method design; bores machined where specified.
  3. 03Uneven wear across a setEach hammer weighed, so sets can be matched for rotor balance.

Choosing the grade

Typical values from the governing standards. A metallurgist confirms the grade for your duty with every quotation.

Usual choice

Austenitic manganese steel

Large feed and heavy impact, where the head work-hardens in service.

ASTM A128 · IS 276 · EN 10349

Alternative

Cr-Mo and martensitic steels

Medium impact and abrasive feed, where manganese steel would not harden enough.

IS 4896 · Customer specification

What we control

  • Grade set by the dutyFeed size, abrasiveness and the risk of tramp metal decide the alloy, not habit.
  • Fast quenchManganese parts go from furnace to water in about 45 seconds, so carbides stay in solution.
  • Tested every heatChemistry by spectrometer and hardness on every heat; tensile and impact tests as specified.
  • Fit where it mattersPin bores, seats and clamping faces machined to drawing.

For a quotation, send any of these

  • Equipment make and model, or the OEM part number
  • Drawing, or the worn part or photographs with key dimensions
  • The grade used today and the life it gives
  • Quantity per set and sets per year
